Who's that on your profile page, Emelia?

I'm sure you've noticed my profile pic and perhaps wondered what it's about. The art by my cover artist, Lisa Lingenfelter Dovichi, depicts the heroine of my debut novel, SONGS & SORCERY.

Junior Watchdog Vela Redmane is a Canid felle of the Fox Clan, a just-recently promoted detective in the Guard Dogs, the Walled City's equivalent of the city watch. Born on the mean streets of Westwater, Vela found a path out of abject poverty through her dedication and keen mind.

A bit of young prodigy, she not only completed an alchemical apprenticeship but graduated near top of her class from the Guard Academy. Vela's passion for the job and extensive training caught the eye of her seniors, and she made a rapid rise from street Mutt to Senior Mutt all the way to Watchdog.

But was her rise too fast? Is Vela truly ready to face the mean streets of the Walled City and the conspiracies that crawl through the shadows?
